Have The Tortilla!

I come from a large Hispanic familia that loves to have "comida" every chance we get together. Sound familiar? Music and dancing in the kitchen was a common ritual at moms. The Sunday lunches in Loving, NM, after mass at Grandma Felipa’s always bring back the fondest memories and oh the food!" This only allows me to have a big and bold appetite! Many people ask what the secret is to healthy living and how do I not eat all the things that taste good? Truth be told, there is no magic pill, there is no secret workout....well, there may be a few things I can share to get that curvy, healthy "from the inside out" shape that makes you proud of! My first word of advice, sure while there are many temptations when it comes to food (especially in Texas- tacos are everywhere) we must learn not to deprive ourselves. How many of us start off really well eating good for a few days, counting our calories, drinking only water and not eating anything with extra sauce or flavor? Then by day 3 we are start to give up on this whole "diet" thing? I have been there and can check that off my list of trying to get skinny. Twenty or more years ago when I began my journey in fitness and nutrition, I too thought the end goal was to get skinny so I can fit in the latest trends. I laugh now at the things I used to try to get into those jeans! It took many years to understand being fit is not about the scale or even being "skinny" (momma loves her curves and appreciates them now). It is more about being healthy and strong both internally and externally. Like anything else you will work hard, get some exercise in each day even if it is a few minutes at a time, eat sensibly (we will learn more of what that means) and go ahead and have the "piece" of tortilla, gain that little taste of satisfaction you deserve. Once you start to invest in you, all that you do will be worth it! Healthy living is a lifestyle, not a diet. I am excited to share what has helped me along the journey, while still feeling ALIVE! !" I look forward to hearing from you and becoming the best of friends! I will leave you with a quote from Grandpa David, "Mija, we eat to live, not live to eat!" Buen Provecho!
